It is an autoimmune disease that damages the thyroid glands.
This disease mostly affects women than men. It is another form of thyroid. It is also known as hyperthyroidism that is overactive thyroid glands.
A person suffering from this disease, their immune system would start to make antibodies that can initiate the thyroid to make more thyroid hormone than the body needs.
Symptoms of Graves’ Disease:
- Bulging of eyes.
- Clotting and reddening of the skin. Especially on the shins and upper feet.
- Irritability or nervousness.
- Muscle weakness
- Heat sensitivity
- Trouble in sleeping
- Shaking of hands
- Rapid and irregular heartbeat
- Without dieting weight loss
Effects of graves’ disease on women:
- A problem in the menstrual period
- Â Difficulty in getting pregnant
- Problem in pregnancy
Even this disease can cause a problem after pregnancy.
Tall Cell Variant of papillary thyroid cancer is the most aggressive form of cancer, which was notably more common in patients with graves’ disease.
It observed that patients suffering from this disease have thyroid nodules that have an increased risk of thyroid cancer.
How can the graves’ disease be diagnosed?
A doctor may ask for some medical test which will include
- Blood test
- Thyroid scan
- Radioactive iodine uptake test
- TSH test
- TSI test
- Anti-thyroid drugs
- Radioiodine therapy
- Thyroid surgery
Initially, we would not be able to know whether we are suffering from this disease. If diagnosed, it is advised that this disease should receive immediate treatment.
