39 Metro Stations in Chennai installs Sanitary Napkin Vending Machine.

Women spend hours traveling through train to reach office and again to reach their resident. It is challenging to handle the mood swing during the menstruation cycle and survive in the train’s rush. Quite often, the period hits the woman while she travels on the train. In that scenario, if she forgets to bring her sanitary napkin, she decides to take a leave from the office. It increases the burden of work on the next day, and due to discomforts in the body due to periods, it becomes tough to manage the office work. To eliminate this situation, CMRL installs Sanitary Napkin Vending Machine in 39 Metro stations to facilitate women passengers.

MC Sampath, the Minister of Tamil Nadu Industries, launched an initiative to avail the sanitary napkins through Sanitary Napkin Vending Machine to women.

CMRL (Chennai Metro Rail Limited), with the help of GEO India Foundation and Rotary International, is launching the Sanitary Napkin Vending Machine that can hold 20 pads. The stock of 1000 pads is provided to every station for a refill. The machines will be installed at the women’s washroom, where the commuters have to insert a coin in the device to get a sanitary pad.

Along with installing the Sanitary Napkins Vending Machine, Chennai Metro stations had also set up women-only toilets and CCTV cameras to ensure proper safety for women while traveling in Metro Rails. Chennai Metro is leaving no stone unturned to provide safety, security, and hygiene for women passengers.
