There are millions of women who are not aware of the availability of Sanitary napkins and their benefits. Those women continue to use leaves, sandbags, old pieces of waste cloth, and ashes during the menstruation cycle. Another issue that every woman face is the non-availability of sanitary napkin during periods. Stree Sanman has introduced Stree Sanman Sanitary Napkin Vending Machine to end period poverty and create awareness about menstrual products.
A problem that has been left unreached for many years is proper Menstrual Waste Management. Improper Menstrual Waste Management harms the health of both environment and human beings. Holding menstrual waste in bare hands can lead to hazardous diseases to human beings; and burying, burning, or keeping sanitary napkins in open spaces will harm the environment; making it unsafe for human beings to survive. To ensure proper menstrual waste management, Stree Sanman has introduced Stree Sanman Sanitary Napkin Smokeless Incinerators.
Recently StartupLanes.com has interviewed the CEO and Co-Founder of Stree Sanman, Mrs. Priya Nikam, and asked few questions related to the Stree Sanman business and its products.
How Stree Sanman Became a Leading Sanitary Napkin Vending Machine and Incinerator Manufacturing Company in India?
At the very first of the interview, Mrs. Priya Nikam introduced herself in which she talked about her passion for social entrepreneurship. Thus, she presented an idea of starting the Stree Sanman. She can provide innovative solutions to eradicate the problem of period poverty and create awareness about menstrual products.
Secondly, she shared the idea of starting the startup; in which she talked about various events that occurred that boosted her to launch the startup. In 2018, she came across the term period poverty in which she came to know that women who are not financially sound enough cannot afford to buy a pack of menstrual products that leads to unhygienic menstrual practices. She also shared an incident where she faced the unavailability of sanitary napkins when traveling with her husband in a rural area. She also stated that unhygienic menstrual practices cause 70% of diseases in women.
The Biggest Challenge of her business: Converting Wants into Needs:
Mrs. Priya Nikam talked about the most significant challenge she faced in her business is to convince the customer about the importance and benefits of using menstrual products as people still holds various stigma and taboos related to periods, due to which talking about periods and menstrual products in public was very difficult.
About Market Gap:
The market gap faced by Stree Sanman is the lack of knowledge of women about the commercial Sanitary Napkins in India. Due to a lack of knowledge about Sanitary Napkins, girls drop out of school after their first period, which affects the women’s literacy rate of the country. Secondly, women are shy to purchase a sanitary napkin from a male shopkeeper and continue using traditional homemade hygienic napkins.
She also discussed her business model and her target customers. Later on, she also discussed the product and services that Stree Sanman provides to their customer. She also discussed different activities organized by Stree Sanman to create menstrual hygiene awareness that makes her business stand different from the competitors.
Stree Sanman is constantly working to end period poverty and bring an innovative solution to make sanitary napkins readily available to women during periods. To create awareness, Stree Sanman organizes various campaigns and workshops stating the importance of using sanitary napkins and other menstrual products during periods. Stree Sanman Sanitary Napkin Vending Machine and Sanitary Napkin Smokeless Incinerators are modern and innovative products to eradicate period poverty and save the environment by eco-friendly disposal of menstrual waste.
