Types of Menstrual Disorders experienced by Women.

Menstrual disorders are different problems that women experience during Periods. Period days are challenging and uncomfortable for women. From mood swings till the last day of the menstrual cycle, women need to manage everything. Due to the taboo related to society’s period, women are not comfortable talking about various menstrual disorders she faces during or after the Menstruation cycle. This article will put light on various menstrual diseases that women face during or post Menstrual cycle.

  • PMS (Premenstrual Syndrome)
  • PMDD (Premenstrual Dysphoric Syndrome)
  • Fibroids
  • Amenorrhea
PMS (Premenstrual Syndrome):

PMS is Premenstrual syndrome that occurs before the Menstrual cycle hits women. It is a common problem that every woman experiences that include mood swings, bloating, fatigue ness, headache, irritation, and depression. It is estimated that more than 90% of women face PMS every month. One can get rid of PMS by lifestyle change and medication.  

PMDD (Premenstrual Dysphoric Syndrome):

It is the extreme version of PMS. Women experience excessive levels of sadness, irritability, depression, and anxiety. PMDD happens a week or two before periods. It is because the hormone levels fall after ovulation. PMDD can have severe effects on mental and physical health. One should seek immediate treatment if she faces symptoms such as Panic attacks, trouble sleeping, depression, feeling out of control, and many such signs.


Fibroids are non-cancerous and abnormal growths that develop in the woman’s uterus. These tumors turn quite large in rare cases and cause severe abdominal pain and heavy bleeding during periods. Symptoms of fibroid include pelvic pain, pain in the lower back, increased urination, heavy bleeding and clots during or after the menstrual cycle, increased menstrual cramps, and swelling or enlargement of the abdomen. Immediate treatment is required for women suffering from fibroids to avoid future problems related to the menstruation cycle.


Amenorrhea is when women miss their back-to-back three menstrual cycles or girls who haven’t encountered their first period by 15. The most familiar cause of amenorrhea is pregnancy. Symptoms of amenorrhea include hair loss, headache, changes in vision, facial hair, pelvic pain, and Acne. Girls who are 15 years old but still don’t have their first period and women who have missed their period should go for immediate treatment and take proper medications.

It’s time for women to be period proud and discuss menstrual disorders and seek immediate treatment to eliminate future problems related to the menstrual cycle. Women are not aware of these menstrual problems that she experiences every month before, during, or post menstrual cycle. One should keep track of symptoms that she faces and discuss them with a gynecologist.
