It’s a proud moment for Stree Sanman that they have launched their Sanitary Napkin Vending Machine and Incinerator ( Vendinci) in Kolkata. They have launched their product in “YEH MERA INDIA” NGO in Kolkata.
“YEH MERA INDIA” is one of the non-profit, social change-maker, and voluntary citizen group who has taken many steps to change the work for better. In India, women are struggling to get sanitary napkins during periods. When a woman visits a medical store to get a pack of sanitary pads and finds that the shopkeeper is male, she feels shy and embarrassed. The feeling of shyness and embarrassment is due to the taboo spread about the menstruation cycle. Women continue to use rags, ashes, sandbags, and dry leaves to avoid period stain. It rolls over from generation to generation.
The period is term as an impurity; that’s why women are not allowed to enter into temples and kitchens during the menstruation cycle. Women are permitted separate room, where they have stay when she is menstruating. They are not allowed to do any rituals. Above are the primary reason why women in India restrict to talk about periods or the menstruation cycle.
Stree Sanman is an organization that is working on bringing a change regarding the stigma of periods in society. They are continuously striving for easy availability and accessibility of sanitary napkin to women. They are providing Sanitary Napkin Vending Machine and also provide Sanitary Napkin Incinerators to destroy the used sanitary napkin. Even they are offering a Period Friendly Workplace Certification title to make the organization period friendly workplace.
